Rumänien ist, nach Einwohnern gemessen, das siebtgrößte Land der Europäischen Union. Österreich wiederum nimmt den 7.

Rang unter den Handelspartnern Rumäniens ein. Bei den Direktinvestitionen aber hat Österreich klar die Führungsrolle übernommen: Mehr als 5800 Unternehmen haben gut 12 Mrd. EURO allein an Kapital investiert (interne Kredite der Mütter an die Töchter sind hier nicht berücksichtigt).

Österreich hat damit zum Strukturwandel und zum eindrucksvollen Wirtschaftsaufschwung der letzten Jahre ebenso beigetragen, wie die rumänischen Niederlassungen zum Erfolg der österreichischen Unternehmen. Gerade wegen seiner Öffnung nach der Revolution vor 20 Jahren, die – auch wenn noch viel zu tun bleibt – einen ungekannten Wohlstand gebracht hat, konnte sich das Land dem Sog der weltweiten Wirtschaftskrise nicht gänzlich entziehen.

Es besteht jedoch kein Grund, auf die Perspektiven zu vergessen, die Rumänien mittelfristig und langfristig bietet. Es gilt nun mehr denn je, das vorhandene Potential gemeinsam auszuschöpfen.
