Economic and commercial relations constitute an important aspect of our bilateral cooperation with Romania.
Turkey is Romania’s largest trading partner in the Balkans. Bilateral trade volume between the two countries was 4,7 billion Euros and 4,3 billion Euros in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Turkish businessmen, who have been in Romania since 1989 and are familiar with the Romanian business environment, constitute the most important asset in further developing Turkish-Romanian economic relations. Turkey is among the largest investor in Romania with its current value of investment exceeding 6 billion USD including those coming from third countries.
More than 6.000 Turkish companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises as well as large scale businesses, are actively operating in Romania in trade, manufacture and service sectors. Food production, agriculture, construction, media, education, internet and health industries are among the wide range of sectors where Turkish investors are investing. Turkish Banks Credit Europe and Garanti Bank Romania, with 85 and 51 branches respectively, are also operating in Romania. Romania continues to offer significant opportunities for both Turkish exports and investments.

The volume of trade between Turkey and Romania in the year 2006 totaled 5 billion dollars.
In the period January-October 2007, the volume of Turkey’s exports is 2,95 billion dollars, and the volume of Turkey’s imports is 2,56 billion dollars.
Turkey’s main exports are textile products, land transportation vehicles, iron and steel, plastics and other chemicals, fruits and vegetables, metal products, electrical machinery and appliances, draining/heating/illumination systems.
Turkey’s main imports are metal ores, scraps, plastics, coal bitumen, crude oil products, wood products, non-ferrous metals.
The potential for developing economic and trade relations between Turkey and Romania presents a wide spectrum of interest.
Turkey is one of the leading investors in Romania. By the end of 2006, Turkish companies’ investments reached to 474 million dollars. Turkish contracting companies has undertaken projects worth 1,5 billion dollars.
The number of Romanian tourists who visited Turkey in the year 2006 was 245.941.
